Dungeon Monitors/Red Bands – DM’s are basically the lifeguards in the BDSM pool. They are supposed to keep everyone safe while supervising the play area and make sure people have fun. They are not supposed to enter scenes unless there is a very good reason.
Red Bands are our version of Dungeon Monitors. The reason we do not call them Dungeon Monitors is because it is generally accepted, though not required, that DM’s have basic first aid training including CPR and go through a DM class. Since our people don’t have that training, we didn’t want to call them DM’s. We started calling them red bands because we needed some way to make these people identifiable. At conventions or in big dungeons they often wear orange vests, no one wanted to do that. We use red arm bands and red name tag lanyards to identify these people in the dungeon, hence the name.
